A Good Samaritan is hoping a badly injured dog’s owners will come forward after it was hit by a car in Friarage Road, Aylesbury.

The Jack Russell cross is currently at Hampden Vets being treated for two broken back legs and a collapsed lung.

The dog was hit by a car between the Rickford’s Hill turning and the roundabout close to Morrisons before the driver sped off on Saturday evening.

A concerned motorist who wants to remain anonymous said: “I scooped him up and took him over to the vets.

“I really feel for him. The driver just disappeared. I just can’t understand how anyone would do that. He’s in a real bad way.

“I spent all day knocking on doors to try and find the owners but have had no luck whatsoever.

“He’s only just alive at the moment and the vets are keeping him in an oxygen tent.

“He’s only tiny. If it was my dog I would want to know about it.”

Practice manager Steve Sharpe said they are continuing to monitor and treat the dog which they estimate is seven years old.

Mr Sharpe added: “If we could get hold of the owners that would be a great help. He’s obviously got out on the road and been hit.”

Hampden Vets can be called on 01296 423666.
