Kids are often getting into deep water but a demonstration coming up aims to keep them afloat.

Stoke Mandeville Stadium is offering a free children’s taster session in lifeguarding and rescue techniques.

It coincides with Drowning Prevention Week with the free session taking place on Thursday June 27 at the Rookie Club from 5pm-6pm.

The club is a Royal Life Saving Society course run at the stadium on a weekly basis for children who want to learn lifesaving and rescue techniques.

Children must be aged between nine and 16 and be above ASA Stage 6 to be eligible to join the club.

Letters will also be sent to local schools with Water Safety code posters and Water Safety booklets to ensure children are well informed on how to stay safe in the water.

Ian Seabrook, business development manager at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, said: “It is vital that children are fully aware of the dangers of being in the water so they can stay safe whilst swimming.

“We hope many children take the opportunity to come to our free taster session and learn some new skills about lifesaving in the pool.”
