A benefits cheat who stole more than £28,000 from taxpayers has appeared in court.
Rebecca Miller, of Chapman Close, Aylesbury admitted three benefit fraud offences, resulting in an overpayment of £28,712.
The court heard that the 24-year-old dishonestly claimed £13,157 in housing benefit, £2,604 in council tax and £12,951 in income support by not declaring she was living with her partner, Joshua Goodwin, who was in employment.
Miller was sentenced to a 12 month community order and will have to pay back all the stolen benefits.
The case followed a joint investigation by benefit fraud investigators from Aylesbury Vale District Council and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Councillor Neil Blake, leader of the council, said: “We consider benefit fraud to be a serious matter.
“People have a duty to notify us and report any change in circumstances when it comes to matters that might affect benefit payments, just as we have a duty to protect public funds.”
