A new fieldsman and assistant auctioneer is coming to Thame Market, and his intention is to expand the area the market serves.
Alex Moss, 36, currently works as a sales rep for Kent Wool Growers in Ashford as well as running a small holding in West Sussex with 25 Hereford cross bred suckler cows, 20 continental ewes, and pedigree Welsh pigs consisting of seven sows and two boars.
As he will commuting to Thame initially (a journey of 120 miles), he is selling his cattle and sheep to give 110% to his new job, and the pigs will be looked after by someone else on his behalf.
He said: “I will commute to start with, and if it all works out we will move.
“Simon Draper (the head auctioneer) wants me to sell two days a week in Thame, and the rest of the time I’ll be out sourcing livestock in the south and south east.
“I’m going to expand the area from where we take livestock.”
Alex, who is married to Maryann who is expecting their first child in August, has a particular interest in pigs and hopes to see pig sales twice a year at Thame Market.
He starts work here in the middle of March and said: “I am very excited about it and I’m looking forward to the challenge and to meeting all the farmers and their families.”
