Charities are to benefit from surplus food donated by Sainsbury’s Thame that would have gone to waste.

The items donated by the store to the Sharing Life Trust include dented cereal packets and items from damaged multi packs.

The trust’s Jon Hulett was presented with the donations at the store.

He said: “We hate wasting food and really believe that old saying ‘waste not, want not’.

“We are really happy that local charities, within our community, can benefit from our food donations scheme.”

Andy White, Sainsbury’s community affairs manager, said: “There are hundreds of hungry mouths to feed in your local community and by donating food to charities and organisations we are saving thousands of tonnes of food needlessly going to landfill.”
